Depending of their status, visitors to Schengen countries may be exempted of Visa application.
Their status depend on their citizenship, residence permit, family relationship, residence country, travel documents or their school pupils. Before traveling to Europe, always look for updated information on official consulates' web sites.

Legend:
The following citizens do no need to apply for a Visa for a visit or transit in Schengen countries:
In addition, Chinese citizen holding a Hong Kong and Macao passport are exempted from visa application.
Warning: being exempted from Visa application doesn’t allow visitors to work or to stay longer than 90 days in a period of 180 days in Schengen countries.
Citizens owner of a residency permit in one of the Schengen countries do not require a visa to visit another Schengen space state.
Visa shall not be requested to any third country school pupil in some conditions. Read more…
Holders of diplomatic and official passports are managed differently, based on their country of origin and their type of passports. It is recommended to consult a Schengen state embassy or consulate for updated information.
Always check one of the Schengen states embassy or consulate for updated information about Visas applications and requirements.

I need help please!
I am a South African citizen staying in Portugal. When I first arrived here, I was on a Schengen Visa.... but I've renewed it since then, so it's now just a normal Portuguese Visa (which obviously restricts me to just Portugal).
My boyfriend and I were planning on going on a cruise in the Med for holiday - and I have to apply for another Schengen Visa (he's Portuguese though). However, when we contacted the Spanish Consulate in Lisbon (Spain is our first point of entry) - they said that I can't apply for a Schengen Visa in a Schengen state..... I would have to go to a non Schengen country to apply, or go back to South Africa to apply.
Is this really the case, or can I still apply here in Portugal???
Do I need a visa?

Hello
Hello prince4hope,
Unfortunately Cyprus is still delayed (in 2009, earliest). Ireland won't join Schengen as long as United Kingdom will opt out of core Schengen provisions.

Changes to Visa Exemption Countries
Hi,
I am a Barbadian living and working on a work permit in the UK for the last 4.5 years. I recently read that citizens of Barbados, Antigua and the Bahamas will no longer require a visa to travel to Schengen countries, in part due to the signing of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Europe and these countries. Does anyone know when visa requirements will be relaxed for citizens of the above Caribbean countries? I am travelling to France, Spain and Italy in August and getting everything together for the (French multiple entry) Schengen visa is an absolute nightmare, as I will be staying in at least 6 different places, 6 flights, 2 train journeys etc, and everything must be booked before I send off the application. Any chance the visa exemption will be enforced before my trip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Keep Hope Alive?
I am Barbados resident, holding both UK and Bajan passports.
My wife holds a Barbados passport.
We are in the process of applying for a Schengen Visa for her passport, in order to do a Med. cruise in Sept.
Lots of hoops to jump thru!!
Hopefully, it'll come thru in two weeks,
or I'm going to be pixzed off!
But to address your query about the alleged upcoming Visa exemptions for Barbados and five other island nations..
..I phoned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here in Barbados,
and spoke with a higher-up, who was (understandably)non-committal in her responses to my many questions.
She indicated that, from Barbados' point-of-view
we LONG for the visa exemption(as do I!)
but the time-frame is questionable.
The ball is in the EU court(as always??) and with luck,
"end-of-the-year" is a time-frame we can hope for/around.
Had I known of this impending exemption in the works
I would never have booked the cruise, pre-exemption!!
I would have preferred to wait it out,
even if the exemption process takes another 2 or 3 years!

I won't be applying for a Schengen Visa again.
We thought the Americans were difficult
when we applied for her U.S.Visa - HA!!
Trust me...the Yanks are eeaasy!
- plus you get a multiple-entry visa for ten years.
None of this nonsense where you get a one-time-only visa
for three short weeks.
Verily I say unto thee, BigBrother lives in Brussels!
Visa Exemptions - FINALLY
After a long and protracted wait, citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Mauritius, The Seychelles and St Kitts and Nevis no longer need a visa to travel to Schengen countries for visits of up to 90 days. I am relieved that this has finally come through...although there is no mention of it whatsoever on this website!!!!! But check out this link
http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/Visa-website-of-the-French.html#outil_sommaire_1
All in Good time it seems!
Check out this link from an online paper from St. Kitts. Can it be true? Is it really happening??? Any word from the Bajan authorities on this yet? Apparently I also read somewhere (can't remember where) that the delay had something to do with the relaxing of multiple visa requirements for nationals from all over the world at the recently ended cricket world cup in the Caribbean!!

Barbadian Schengen Visa Exemptions
Thanks for your response. The fact that the visa exemption for Barbadians is being considered and negotiated is great news, despite the time frame. What really sucks also though is if you live in Barbados and want to travel to Martinique (30minutes by plane); Guadeloupe; or St. Martin (I'm assuming) you have to go through the same nightmare of a process to get the visa. To the hilarious "verily I say unto thee" some consulates like the French ones do offer multiple entry 6 months visas, so it depends on which consulate/schengen state you apply for the visa at. This in turn will depend on either your first country of entry or your main destination. So as long as you have bought all your flights, booked all your hotels, have proof of financial support, and travel insurance for the duration of your visit (annual travel insurance is the best) you should have no problems. A tall order I know, but my advice is to plan well in advance to avoid disappointment. I've been planning my month long trip for about 6months, buying tickets and reserving hotels along the way.
New Schegen Visa Exemptions For Barbados & Bahamas
Well folks, the wait is finally over!!
From May 28th 2009 several new additions to the short stay schengen visa white list were finalised (see Barbados Foreign Affairs website http://www.foreign.gov.bb/articles.cfm?article=404) meaning that with immediate affect nationals from Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Mauritius, Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Seychelles can travel for short stays (less than 90 days in 6 month period) to mainland Schengen countries without a visa. Erm, note this does apply to their departments, e.g. St Martin, etc (Not sure why this is but any progress is good progress)
Was a long time in coming but is good news all the same! As a Barbadian living in the uk for "many moons" pity it has been implemented when I'm almost now eligible for uk citizenship but at least mainland Bajans and others can appreciate this more. Definitely shows that Europe is open to change... it just takes time!
Some of the consulate websites (e.g. France, Netherlands ) are already being updated but many are still have not made the changes to their sites yet.. Will obviously be lead time for scores of immigration sites out there to provide this update (trust me, I've not seen many do so yet) so maybe the Admin can update this site when it gets a chance ;-)

New Schegen Visa Exemptions For Barbados & Bahamas
Slight typo to above... New Schengen exemptions does NOT apply to their departments so visas still required to go to French and Dutch Caribbean countries..

Hello Solomon, I do not know
Hello Solomon,
I do not know the requirements regarding your visa needs for Belarus, but in theory you are exempt from a Schengen visa as long as you stay in the airport. Nevertheless you should always get a confirmation from a Schengen consulate (eg. Germany) as rules and change from one day to another.
Have a nice business trip!

Dear Prince of Hope,
From now on, you can travel to Schengen states as long as your residency permit is valid, but until march next year, you'll have to show your passport for any flight because the border opening is not active for air traffic yet.
Thanks
Thanks for the information...today Poland become Schengen countries.is a good opportunity for us.
i will like to know maybe UK as signed the schengen aggreement?
UK is not Schengen
Unfortunately UK is not willing to join the Schengen countries. Thus in your situation, you have to visit a British consulate and apply for a visitor visa.

Space Schengen question
Hello,
I am peruvian but I have a residence permit here in Hungary because I have been working here since 1 year ago. I wanted to ask you first if I need s visa for each time I want go visiting friends from a Schegen Country or it could work with the residence permit?. If I still need a visa even the residence permit, which would be the better type if there is any to avoid asking each time for one at least for certain period of time.
My other question is about Hungary joining the Schengen Space. If it happens in December, I would need still the visa for flights ?
Many thanks in advance,
Maribel Tejada
